CANADA & AMERICA – On November 6, 2022 in Miami, USA, the second iteration of the FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup was held. The winning teams were from the United States of America and Canada, respectively.

After claiming victory over Puerto Rico in the AmeriCup men’s competition championship match, the United States of America successfully defended their title (21-18). Kareem Maddox, who is ranked as the best 3×3 player in the USA and 27th in the world, scored the most points (9) in the championship game. In Miami, former college standout and current NBA player Jimmer Fredette scored the gold-winning two-pointer, while his teammate Canyon Barry was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) after leading the USA in scoring.

In addition to Barry, the other members of the Team of the Tournament include Jorge Matos, who won silver with Puerto Rico, and Leonardo Branquinho, who topped the score for Brazil, who earned bronze.

After claiming victory over Brazil in the AmeriCup women’s final, Canada was able to claim their first ever title in the competition (15-11). Michelle Plouffe, the winner of the Women’s Series and the Final Most Valuable Player, led all players in scoring in the championship game with 9 points, and she added another silverware MVP trophy to her collection of trophies.

The team of the competition also included Vitoria Marcelino of Brazil, who led all scores in Miami and won silver for her country. Camille Zimmerman of the United States, who won bronze, was also a member of the team.

3×3 is an exciting, urban, and inventive team sport that is believed to be the most popular urban team sport in the world. It was modeled by numerous variations of streetball that are played all over the world. On a basketball half-court, two teams, each consisting of three players, compete against one another in games that are governed by FIBA.

It was played for the first time in international competition during the successful 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, and since then, it has profited from the creation of a yearly city-based FIBA 3×3 World Tour as well as national-team FIBA 3×3 World & Continental Cups.

The Olympic debut of the 3×3 competition took place in Tokyo on July 24, 2021.
