Market Hall Victoria is back in business.
Few places are as wonderful and frustrating (in equal measure) as a London food hall. On the one hand, there’s a wealth of delicious dishes to choose from. On the other hand, there’s simply too much choice, which leaves me constantly second-guessing my decision, even as I tuck into whatever I’ve opted for. And this culinary existentialism is about to get even worse, as one of the capital’s favourite food halls has just reopened for the first time since March 2020. It’s been a long road for Market Hall Victoria, but after sixteen months of empty tables, it’s finally back for good.
One of three food halls from the Market Halls team – original site Market Hall Fulham and the massive Market Hall West End will reopen later in the year, Eater reports – Market Hall Victoria is a polished product. Eleven foodie outlets, three bars, and a coffee shop are spread over the market’s three floors, and there’s space for 400 diners. There’s also a roof terrace overlooking Victoria station, where you can watch the commuters scurry past as you sip on a cocktail.
Despite the hall itself being over a century old, the Market Halls team have given it a modern touch – making it a swish home for all this food. In the past, the eleven vendors have been a mix of familiar names opening new branches, and established restaurants and street food vendors experimenting in a new location. For instance, noodle legends Koya, dim sum eatery BaoziInn, and salt beef pros Monty’s Deli, along with experimental branches of Roti King and Breddos Tacos, made their homes here upon the market’s opening, back in 2018.
After one of the longest pandemic-enforced hiatuses in town, however, you can expect to see some changes to the 2021 lineup, with both old and new traders gracing the halls. Market Hall Victoria has a really good track record in attracting top foodie talent though, so we’re pretty confident the lineup won’t disappoint. Plus, that roof terrace was just made for summer:
You’ll be able to pop down from July 29, and with the Fulham and West End branches hopefully following soon (along with a planned Canary Wharf site, now scheduled for 2022), this empire of street food will be back at full power before long.
